I can stop running now. I have to anyway - the breath is screaming in my throat for the bittersweet salvation that comes with immediate stillness. I inhale deeply and wince as it cuts the gentle skin of my windpipe, the cold air having been rejected for God only knows how long. Wet grass cushions my knees, my eyes drawn closer to the surface of it's spiky tendrils as my body leans, purposefully ignorant to my brains' harsh commands to persist onwards. I don't care - I'm far enough. Now all I want is for the sweet embrace of rest to lie me down and stroke my face, to coax my fears into exile with its soft voice. And how could I not feel safe
